Brighton drum lessons: a practical guide
Thinking about drum lessons in Brighton? Here are straight answers to the questions people ask most before their first lesson.
Where do lessons take place?
Either at your home, with visits across BN1 and Greater Brighton, or at a Brighton rehearsal studio you choose. For studio lessons you cover the room hire and we bring the teaching.
Do I need my own drum kit?
For home lessons you'll learn on your own kit. If you don't have one, a studio lesson means the room's kit is there for you.
I've never played. Is that OK?
Yes. Beginners start with grip, posture, first grooves and reading simple rhythms. No experience needed.
What if I already play?
Improvers work on fills, dynamics, playing along to songs and tightening time. Advanced players focus on technique, style work and grade exam preparation.
Who teaches the lessons?
Jack Thomas: 20 years drumming, High Honours from Guildhall and a BIMM alumnus. He teaches rock, funk and groove, using pattern recognition, and can teach sheet music too.
Are there discounts for BIMM students?
Yes. BIMM students get 15% off lessons with their student ID, and sessions can be tailored to support your course.
How do I book?
Go to the booking page, choose home or studio lessons, pick your area or studio, a date and time, and send the request on WhatsApp. You'll see your price before you send.
